The Trip to St. John By William
Waiting. The most boring part of the trip. Waiting for the plane. Waiting for the ferry. Waiting for the van. Waiting waiting waiting. Until, we arrived at a small place in a leafy grove overlooking cinnamon bay. Villa Capise (Recently destroyed in hurricane Erma.)
I entered the house and walked out onto the balcony. Still nothing to do, but yesterday was a new day, a better day, freedom from all the work and waiting.
“… Yup, morning, dawn of a day full of fun. Wonder what lays ahead.” I thought as a jumped out of bed. I walked upstairs to the kitchen, went to the refrigerator.
After a short breakfast my family and I walked down to the bay.
After we arrived a put on my snorkel, applied sunscreen, and ran into the ocean shouting in excitement. I jumped in before everyone else not waiting for my family to catch up. “HELLO FISHIES!” I shouted as I dove into the water. Now get this, i was never a beach person. I HATE sand. But when giving the opportunity to snorkel in the Caribbean, you know what i'm going to say .
Hello Fish. Hello Turtle. Hello somewhat threatening manta ray.
Marine life. The whole reason I wanted to come here.
I swam over to some fan coral and behind it swam a moray eel, Yikes!
By a patch of brain coral I saw the derpy looking fish and I almost spat my snorkel out cause the fish looked so ridiculous. I swam some more until I felt a sharp pain in my foot. “Ouch! What was that?” I exclaimed. I looked down and I saw that I had kicked a sea urchin.
A sea urchin… Something dangerous. Like all the other things out there in the sea that would love to kill me and make me into a human burger. Sea life is great and all but when the sea life is dangerous, that's another thing.
Anyway, my ultimate goal was to find a narwhale (not gonna happen.) Or maybe a whale shark (also not gonna happen.) Or At least a baracuta that would gladly eat my face off (I did see a barracuda.) And then, whaddaya know, baracuta. “Don't move a muscle (haha muscle, like those weird oyster things.)” I thought. Actually no, maybe i will move, yea i'm gonna move. It just stared at me the whole time. I decided to leave.
After i left i saw a ton of HUGE parrot fish swimming my way and the weren't stopping. “RUN!” I thought (well, i mean swim, not run.) I swam as fast as i could to avoid an army of spooked parrot fish… until i ran into my brother, Sam. He was looking at a lionfish (Not a good idea, bro) and the lionfish got scared and ran away. Afterwards he started yelling at me until he heard the army of incoming fish. “RUN!” He Exclaimed. Turns out, Parrot fish are pretty fast swimmers, like really fast… really really fast. Also it turns out they weren't chasing me or Sam
They were running from a larger fish. “phew , for a minute i thought the were gonna eat my face, my beautiful face… my beautiful beautiful face.” I said (don't ask why i thought that, they were swimming fast… okay?)
After that i swam around in a kelp field, a really tall kelp field. I looked down and saw a cloud of little dust with a barb sticking out of it. Stingray… RUN! As i approached the entrance of the kelp forest, two more sting rays appeared. And then a HUGE manta emerged from a giant cloud of dust. (THE FLIPPING KING OF THEM.)Turns out i had no reason to be scared cuz mantas aren't evil. I decided to leave the kelp forest then. Alright can i tell you i am SUPER ULTRA MEGA scared of mantas. Those bottom feeders with those beady little eyes and those giant stabby things. Terrifying, Right? It brought a chill down my spine just thinking about them. Oh, sorry for breaking the 4th wall, back to the story. After a few more hours and a fun day of swimming around, it was time to go back to the villa, days later my family and I went back to West Virginia. What a trip!
The End
