HERMIONE!!! by Lily

I was so excited I had just got a new hamster. She is a little sweetie pie and I love her so much and am never going to lose her.

A Month Later

“HERMIONE!” I fell to the ground and started to cry my eyes out. My hamster just crawled up a tiny hole in my parents bathroom! I had her for like a week or something! I don't know I can’t think straight. My mom came sprinting upstairs.

“Annie is Lily ok! Lily are you ok!” she asked.

“No,” I cried. “My hamster is up a little hole in your bathroom counter, do you think I’m ok!” I was crying so hard now. “There’s no way to get her out! The area is closed off! She’s stuck! It’s all my fault! I lost my hamster!”

As you can see I do not do well with stress. I get all hyped up and can’t calm down. I tried breathing but couldn't calm down. I was panicking.

“ I wanted Annie to see how cool hamsters are so I let her walk around, which I now see was not the best idea.” All we could do then was wait.

We jerked around. I heard a noise. A scratching, scraping sound. I thought that she had returned to me. I turned to embrace her but instead saw an empty space. Annie walked over to the top drawer. She touched the oak wood and said, “The sound is coming from in here.” She opened the drawer slowly as not to scare Hermione, if she was in there. She wasn't. We supposed that she had gotten to the closed of space above the drawer.

While we were waiting I did not have the most cheer-up kind of people waiting with me.

“Do you think she will come out?” I asked my mom hopeful for a good answer.

“Well, It must be dark in there so she might have gone to sleep. Also we don’t know if she as in-wall-access, so she might have found her way into the tunnels of the walls. We don’t know.”

Then there was Annie who stared at me and said “Wow, you are really sad that Hermione went in the hole huh.” I mean come on. I was crying my eyes out! Of course I was upset! She didn’t have to point it out every fifteen minutes! Mom with her discouraging words, making me feel worse.

We had been waiting, watching the hole underneath. Listened to her scratch, scratch, scratching around. We were quiet as mice.

Earlier, mom tried to scare her out. She knocked on the cold, hard tile of the counter to make a loud noise. When that didn’t work she told me to go get her food so she could smell her way out. I poured it under the hole and we had waited.

“Lily,” Mom said, breaking the silence. “Go to your room and grab your book. Pull the bean bag chairs in for you and Annie.”

As I walked into my room I saw her empty cage. I wondered if I would ever hear her annoying blue wheel at night again. Tears came into my eyes again. Will I ever cuddle with her again? Take pictures of her in pop up books again?

I dashed to the bookshelf to grab the scarlet and yellow covered book. It was Gone With the Wind. I was about in the middle of the book. It was about a girl who was living during the Civil War. I dashed back into the bathroom. She wasn’t out yet. I pulled the bean bags to the center of the room. Ready to wait as long as it took.

After about ten minutes I heard a plop and the sound of food scattering. I looked up and saw the most adorable thing eating the food,

“Hermione!!!” I scooped her up and carried her to my bed. There I sat with her and cried. I gave her hugs and food. Water and brushed the dust bunnies off her.

“I missed you.” I said.

Don’t Annoy People With a Nerf Gun! By: Pedro

“Now WHAT?! You want me to go find out where the other team’s base is? That probably means you want me outta here, right? But OK, I’ll do it.” I said trying not to let my voice break like glass.
“You are REALLY gonna do that? I mean, I thought you didn’t want to.” said the person who was telling me to go on the mission.

“Well, I mean, I didn’t want to do it, but you’re forcing it, so I’m going.” I said very lazily.

Without another word, I grabbed my nerf gun and some bullets and headed out as silent as the wind could be. I kept moaning to myself, why do I HAVE to do this. Nothing interesting, just have to find the base. But as I slowly creeped down the outside corridor, something caught my sight: it was the door leading right to the garage! Cherry on top of the cake, the garage led to the elevator!

Right then and there, a thought came into my mind, the thought that if I went up the elevator, I would end up in the elevator room, which would give me access into all the building’s other rooms, like the gym and also the movie room, in which was most likely their base. Now I have to get back quickly to base, so I finally began slowly creeping back down the cold stone stairway.

As I was getting nearer the end of the outside corridor connecting the enormous pool and the other elevator room I heard the sound. Thump, thump, thump. Suddenly after that I heard a very loud scream that was no good for me. “Someone was here! Whoever it is, get him and bring him back here!!” Panic came into my mind as suddenly as the shout had itself.

Scrap, I thought as I heard the scream. I have to go rushing back to base, or else I will literally be crushed… or shot to death, I thought. But while I was thinking I totally didn’t notice that I was almost back to my team’s base. Oh my god, why am I going down the ramp, not the staircase; the only thing I can do is jump over the stuff, it’s my only chance, I thought.

After jumping a lot of stuff, like bushes and handles, I made it back to my base shaking like a dog when it is scared.

“So, I know where the base is, but plan first. The first part is pretty obvious and on the open, the outside corridor, but that leads us to the garage in which they won’t see us coming through, then we get to the elevator that will lead us up into the elevator room. As we all know, the elevator room gains us access to every single room in the building, like the gym, but that’s not their base, but it also gains you access to the movie room and the tennis court. Exit plan later.”

Next thing, we walked up the stairway onto the outside corridor, them, looking in every direction to see any danger. I was just normally walking up until the garage. We nervously went up the elevator into enemy ground, not knowing the nervousness would soon fade like a fire. The place was lid up by sunlight, with a glass table in the middle, and a big, elegant glass light fixture.

“You haven’t told us yet where the base is. What we do know is that it is around here”

“My friends the enemy base is a big dark and lonely place, filled with chairs, and by the way, that’s why it is called their secret base. The MOVIE ROOM!”

At that moment on every step we took was taken as carefully as possible. There it was, the big white door leading into the enemy base. Then I saw it...I realized we would need something called a tag, which was a round, little blue thing used for opening doors.

“Anyone has a tag? We’ll need that to get into the base and invade.”

“I have one, but it sometimes gets little crappy or it doesn’t work very well. Let’s hope it works this time.”

As silent as a snake, we go into the enemy fortress and a nerf gun sound flows through the air like the wind. That was it, the sound of them preparing to come get us, but before they could reach a step, someone shot a nerf bullet. The other team noticed it, and before we could blink they were there, ready to attack. At least five minutes later, a lot of shooting later, me and my teammates were flying out of the base. Suddenly something caught my arm: it was one of the enemies. I broke free from his grip, but then he charged up his nerf gun and pointed it right at my chest

“Aren’t you going to shoot me. You have the gun, or are you scared of hurting me?”

“No I’m not scared of hurting you”

About a minute had passed until he finally shot me but missed. It was barely that his bullet missed my chest, only because I slided to the right. After that I began rushing as fast as I could. This time I took the easy way, down the stairs I waited less than one minute until I was back inside the base.

Bad Birthday By Ashton

Tuesday, May 15, 2018. This was my birthday, and no one cared. My teacher had forgotten, even though she had it on her calendar. My friends didn’t say anything, they didn’t even remember. My family would celebrate on a different day, because we were “to busy.”This wasn’t just any birthday, this was my tenth birthday, double digits, and every one either didn’t care or didn’t remember. I was in a dress, even though I hate dresses, why? Because it was my Dad’s work party, everyone thought this was the big thing today, not me, not a human being’s special day. A student, a friend, a daughter, that no one cared about. I started wiping the tears from my eyes. I hated crying. Today was awful, too awful. I let the tears fall. A trickle, a stream, a river of sadness, in which I was drowning. Past the point of ever coming to a even ok day. The salty tears stung. My Mom had noticed.

“Ashton, you’re fine. There is nothing wrong. You have no reason to cry.” Easy for her to say. She always has a perfect birthday, in December, were nothing happens and every one remembers… how nice that would be. This only made me cry harder. “Honestly, stop crying.” she snapped bitterly. Now I was scolded, like a dog. The depth of my sorrow increased. So still sniffling, and shedding small tears, I shuffled into the car. The whole way I looked out the window, being aware I was headed to the place I didn’t want to go. Soon we arrived, as we parked my Mom seemed to be softened, so she told me, “Ashton, Aunt Sheenna and the cousins have a recording for you.”

When the recording started, I heard my cousins off-key voices and my Aunt trying to lead/drown their voices. It warmed my heart ever so slightly, as they started singing a song that meant a lot to me, seeing as I felt forgotten…

“Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday dear Ashton

Happy Birthday to you”

This felt so wonderful. It brought a small smile. But only a small one. Then I trugged behind my family to get into the party. The warm feeling was gone. It would not come back. The line was long. I knew that people saw my tearstained face and that made me blush, now my face was even redder than it was when I was crying. Time went by, and we were allowed in. The party seemed decent. There was bungee jumping, a animatronic bull, bouncy houses, even face painting. I wanted to lose myself in the crowd. Get away from myself, but first we had to find our Dad. We had no luck in finding him, so instead we went to the bungee jumping. When we got into the line, there was a river of children. By the time it was my turn, my Dad had come.

“Dad, can you hold my glasses?” I asked. It would not be good to have my glasses flying into the unknown.

“Sure!” Dad answered. I required assistance putting on my harness. Soon I was being pulled into the air. “Make sure you make her jump high!” Dad yelled. “It’s her birthday!” So, Dad had remembered. I was jumping really high now.The descent came with my gut tearing away at me, like a pit growing deeper. This continued for two or three minutes.

Then we raced through bouncy houses, and tried to dodge a twirling inflatable pillar. It was brutal, I received for all my efforts, three trampoline burns. Then I got to have my face painted, again I took my glasses off. Fairy eyes. I had fairy eyes. Before we left, we could ride the animatronic bull, that tried to buck you off. Easier said than done, I got more trampoline burns. When we got home we got cupcakes for my birthday (Mom felt sorry for me.) The End.

The House of New By Adam

As me, my brother Garrett and Nat got off our bikes we looked at what would be our new house in 1 month time. We were there at the house as my dad fingered out how to get the key to the house I saw it the big green area in front thing wishing I had someone to talk to or something to do. Our dad got the key in with a lot of yelling. we went inside and saw the big chandelier hanging above us. And a place where we could put the desk and bookshelves and the kitchen with marble tops and lots of space and as I looked around I knew that we would lose things easier. As I walked outside I saw the deck and the swing set along with the hot tub. It had a red cover and when i tried to lift it I couldn't so I when in side and got my brother and he lifted it up and we saw it was drained sort of. It had muddy water with bugs in the water and it had a little control system in the front. When dad came out he saw it he said that “ we would work on fixing it when we got all of our things here.” We went in side the house there was a large room with a area where we should put our tv in. and we saw the kitchen it had a marble table top and a silver fridge.

When we finally went up stairs we went into the room on the left and it was green and had a tree that was the color of snow. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a trapdoor in the wall when I looked in side it was covered in foam and it was small and resembled a panic room. As we left I looked back and saw it open and when back and sut it. The next room was small and had a ceiling fan and a small closet with a wood door it had like a space them and nothing interesting. I moved on to the next room It had blue wall paint and a corner that was two 45 angles and wall in between and also a selling fan. And as we moved on to the next room it was huge with windows that look over the backyard.

As we went down stars we went to the basement it was huge it had a lot of open space and two rooms one was a restroom and the other was the color of snow.It had a closet and open space. And when we walked directly across from the room there was a bar and it had a mini fridge and a dishwasher with a rack that hold wine glasses and there was beer in the fridge.

That was the story of the house of new.

Las Vegas By Mia

I was sitting on the plane as it started going down to the gorgeous city of Las Vegas. “Dad where going down!” Mia said. My dad grabbed my hand tight, and then he grabbed it tighter. The plane was down on the ground, and everybody started to shake up then down. We got in to the airport and started to walk to where we could get our luggage.

‘’Where do we get our luggage?” said my uncle theo. My dad said to uncle theo that is was straight ahead. All of us started to get our luggage. Then we called an uber and got in.

“Where are you going.” said the uber driver. My dad responded and said that we are going to the Venetian. So we arrived at the Venetian after a really short ride. My dad checked us into the hotel, and it was such a nice room. I was already to rest. But then my dad called out that we were are going somewhere else so everybody went straight out of the door and met up with some of my dads part of my family. We called another uber and went to the mall. I bought a new Alex and Ani bracelet, and I spent like 15 minutes trying to pick out the bracelet. We spent a lot of time at the mall until everybody bought something. We called an uber and went back to the Venetian we brought our bags in. Then we went on a nice walk and saw the Flamingo hotel. Then we had some lunch there and I had some fries there.

“Wow were under the ferris wheel. Mommy, and daddy!” Mia said. My mom was scared of the ferris wheel so we kept on going. So then we went back to the Venetian, and had dinner a buchans. It was so delicious. We went to our room, and everybody settled in. Everybody got in bed and started to go to sleep. Just before I went to sleep I thought that the first day in Las Vegas was great.

The Ropes Course By: Brody

The ropes course was one of the best activities at eco week. I was so excited while walking to the course. I looked up and saw a giant rock wall, a super tall wooden pole with metal poles sticking out, and two wooden poles you had to walk across.

We got are harness on and the fearless pikas”aka” my eco week group walked up to the rock wall/swing. The first two people climbed up the course, while four people behind held the rope. Everyone cheered them on, they got to the top and they jumped off. The next two people started and then the next people started and so on, “It felt like forever” seriously it was boring until it my turn of course. “I’m sure everyone else felt that way”. FINALY! It was my turn, I put a helmet on and hooked my harness on and I was ready. Lara and I started to climb. We eventually made it to the top. It was shaking at the top of the podium, the instructor hooked us in. He told me to move to the right onto a wooden board. “On a count of three” he said, one, two, and then three.I jumped off and right as I jumped, the first few seconds it was complete freefall. “And then it swug me up so high which was amazing but, it kind of hurt once it pulled you up”. I could feel the wind whispering into my ears as it blew past me “wishhh”. That was one of the best moments of my life “yes my life”.

Another part of the ropes course was the catwalk. The catwalk was fun but, I didn't have as much fun on it because I tried to speed run it “so that basically means that I tried to rush the obstacle”. The instructor was timing me and when I got down on the ground I asked him and he said “sixty seconds”. “I was surprised because that seemed very quick, I think?”.

“Dun dun dun”! And now, for the scariest part of the ropes course, the leap of faith! “I know it sounds weird but, it was the only part of the course that I was scared of”. “I know that you might think that they were all scary but I wasn't until I faced this”. From the ground I thought that it was going to be easy. So I started to climb up it until there was a problem. When I was like eight feet in the air, a metal bar fell off. I had to come back down and the instructor had to go up there and put it back on. Finally I could restart and so I was climbing but when I got to the top, it was a whole different world. I was struggling to actually stand up on the pole because it seemed like I was going to fall off and die. “ Well, that was kind of dark”. I somehow managed to stand up and I thought that was an achievement. I even was nervously talking to the instructor and she of course said that I would be fine. It sort of boosted my confidence. She made a countdown of three, two, and then one. I made a huge leaped to the trapeze and I was so surprised that I made it, I thought I was going to fall. Then she lowered me down and I felt good about myself because I grabbed onto the trapezes, “I thought it was going to be harder, but it wasn’t”. Unfortunately my group had to leave, so that means I didn’t get to go on the Centipede.

All in all, I had a great experience at the ropes course because, I haven’t done anything nearly as fun of an activity than this one. If I rated this ropes course I would give it a ten out of ten.

Rigid Ropes Course By: Natalie

“I-I don’t know about this!” I mumbled through my near frozen face. It was the first day up at Eco Week, and we were at the ropes course. Although I was beyond excited for the ropes course, nerves consumed me the most! I stood on the rocky and unstable ground with the rest of my group, and looked up at the towering rock wall. The thirty foot wooden wall seemed to dance in the wind, each handhold looked as if it was grasping onto the wall. The giant swing on the other side of the wall looked like the swings at our school, without a seat, and about 30 feet higher. As I stood looking at the wall in awe, Mrs. Hale trotted over to me and tapped me softly on the shoulder.

“Would you do the rockwall first for me? I want you and Cam to set an example.” She said sweetly. Her words rang in my head. The high wind speed seemed to blow an answer right out of my mouth.

“Of course! I’d love to go first!” I exclaimed loudly. She nodded her head and walked away.

As kids began to collect into a line, I stepped to the side, waiting to go. Nerves seemed to build up inside me. Big. Doomed. Panic. Every second seemed to be minute. Every minute seemed to be hour.

“First two!” Mrs. Hale called out from behind me. I slowly stumbled over to the wall, Cam at my side. Mrs. Hale went over the instructions with the other students on how to belay me up the wall. As soon as I felt a tug around my harness, I began to climb. My hands pulling up my ice like body up, up, up. Every Time I got stuck, a cloud of encouragement came from the ground. As I kept climbing up the wall, I began to look over at Cam. He was already waiting to do the swing, but that didn’t stop me!

“You got this Natalie!” I heard Lara yell at the bottom. I swung my leg around the wall. My body followed.

“I DID IT!” I yelled once I made around the back of the wall. As the man clipped Cam and I into the giant swing, I just listened. I heard the animals in the distance, my friends supporting me from the ground, and I heard Cam wish me luck. He looked at me and gave me a thumbs up.

“Alrighty you two, you’ve made it this far!” The man at the top told us. “When I say so, just off the edge!” He yelled through the singing wind.

“3..2..1, GO!!” I leaped off the side of the wall, I felt the air kiss my cheek. A tender, soft kiss. I could see the string above me, swaying with the wind. My body jerked forward, then back. I felt endless, and fearless! I leaned back and hoped for this moment to last forever. I could feel myself slowing down, somehow Cam was still way higher than me, but I didn’t care. I smiled. Mrs. Odom came over to me and grabbed my legs to slow me all the way down. Feeling my feet on the ground felt wrong. I desired to be up in the air again, up where the only flaw is the ringing whistle of the wind hurtling through your ear. As soon as Mrs. Odom took my harness of and helped me off the swing, I ran to Lara. I knew that she would want to know all about it, but I wouldn’t tell. I didn’t want to spoil the surprise.

“How was it?” She asked me anxiously.

“It was, umm, you’ll see!” I giggled at her. I could see the anxiousness in her face, but I knew she’d thank me later for not spoiling it! This was by far, my favorite rock wall ever! I headed off to the Cat Walk, my head held high. This time, I was still nervous, but the knowledge and strength I had, will last a lifetime!

The Leap of Faith By Emerson

I was ready. I was ready to climb up the giant pole. Not knowing what would happen, I stepped up. I knew I was able to do it, but what if I froze, what if I had a bad jump? All these fears haunted me as I was climbing up the pole. I could hear the steps making a slight noise each time I stepped up. Suddenly, some confidence rushed into me I knew I could make the jump. I just had to not freeze up or make a bad jump.

“Don’t fall” I heard someone yell. I couldn’t identify their voice because I was so focused on making it to the top. Even though I had just regained some confidence, each step was terrible. Each step I became more nervous. All my friends were watching me I couldn’t mess this up. On the outside, I felt like there was no way I wouldn’t make the jump. Although a little part of me, which really at the time felt like the reality, was telling me that I would miss the jump.

Then I heard someone say, “Go Emerson!” Though I still couldn’t identify the voice, this gave me a surge of confidence. Just in time. I had finally made it to the top. Now all I had to do was stand on top of the pole and make the long jump to the trapeze. I stood on top of the pole then froze. It was like my body just wanted to stand there forever.

Suddenly I heard the instructor say, “Ok ready to jump? One, Two,Three!” I jumped, right then I knew I was going to make it, yes! Right before I was going to grab the trapeze both my elbows hit the trapeze I felt a surge of pain going through both of my arms. Then I realized that I was going to fall down and miss the trapeze, and I didn’t want to do that. So I quickly grabbed the trapeze and there I was hanging on the bar. I had done it I had made the leap of faith!

I hung up there for a couple seconds thinking about what I had just done. I had done it, I don’t know why I thought it would be so hard, but I had done it. I let go and went down slowly. Well I had done it I had made the leap of faith. All my friends rushed over to me and we all celebrated. I had made the leap of faith. All I wish was that I wasn’t so nervous and enjoyed the experience more. I had done it, I had done it, I had made a leap of faith.

The Giant Swing By Luc

The giant swing really lives up to its name. You might imagine a fifteen foot swing that looked like it belong to a giant, but no. I stretched up for at least twenty feet and has holds that just don't care when the fall of.

I was starting to get scared only five feet of the ground when I was in the “x” position making a total fool out of myself. I forced myself to not look down, and keep going up. Lift your leg up onto the foothold, bring your hand up to the next hold. I kept repeating this until I was say maybe fifteen feet up,. That's when my gloryus handhold decided to fall of while I was lifting my two legs to the next footholds. While I was dangling there out of terrified shock I suddenly had a burst of burst of energy and I scrambled to the top as fast as I could sure that something was going to go wrong. But, nothing happend, I made It to the top and slid around the side and hopped onto the platform. As I waited for my partner to make it to the top I silently promised myself never to do this again. After about twenty seconds she was here and we got suited up for the big swing. The instructor told us to stand on these planks of wood that stretched out of of the main platform about three feet. As the Instructor handed me the swing rope he said “Lean back little so it doesn't pull you of the edge”. All I could muster was a slight nod and something that sounded like a cat choking on a furball. As he waited I could hear my heartbeat, and it felt like it was coming from my toes. I Leaned back and rested against the pillar of wood like I had just run a twenty miler . I could almost hear everybody making bets on what kind of grease spot I would make on the ground. Then something hit me, no not physically, but I remembered on our way here the two instructors talking. They were saying that you should jump sideways not forward I figured that I should listen, It might even save me from being grease spot in the shape of a overgrown orangutan. The sharp “GO!” shifted me back to reality, I leaped of the edge like I was leaping of the edge of a building, time seemed to slow, and then I was ten feet from the ground, nine feet, eight feet, and then… whoosh! I was swung forty feet in the air at fifty miles per hour swinging back and forth. Climbing up the wall and almost jumping to my death had been worth it, all along. It felt good swinging back and forth at high velocity, with the wind rippling through my hair. Somewhere fifteen feet from the earth my stomach and fear waited for me, as I descended a ladder helped me back down to the ground.

Even though I wasn't swinging anymore didn't mean that my legs would stop shaking, I almost fell over when I touched solid ground again. After I made it to my friends I started to feel good about doing the Giant swing.

First One Up First One Done by Mac

I was one hundred percent determined. “For what.” I questioned quietly. I am determined because I want to prove to my mom that I can do this hick and not be miserable. Prove to my sister that I don't have to a little tiny five mile hike. I had my determination at full speed. Finanaly, ok that wasn't so bad. I said in barely even a whisper as coyote casey said, “we are here at Octopus tree. I was not exhausted, not tired, not ready to give up. None of those things just cold, actually I was completely frozen.

As we kept going we told lots of riddles and jokes and tried to answer them and would laf and say OH when we heard the answers. As we got further up the mountain we stopped at pica pick. Then we had a snack and kept going.

After that I was ready to go to the top and was well refreshed. As we reached the top, I put full speed into my step and, was the first to the top of Mummy.

I fell to the ground in a happy but ungraceful manner. I had made it to the top and now I was tired, but was the first one two. As it started to hail we tried to eat lunch but the weather just got worse and worst we had to leave. I sprang of and we moved like lightning. Soon it got sunny as we went done and we stopped to look at the different types of trees and finish lunch.

Soon we were springing into action and soon I was in the lead and ended up the first one done. I made a high pitched squeal of joy as the cabins came into site, we took a selfie or to and door of our cabin. I skipped into my room, and met my friends who told me surprising news that even the hardest hike Stormy got back before, eventually I collapsed onto my bottom part of the bed and instantly went to jelow.

Eco Week By: Libby

“MAKENAH! Have you found number 7 yet?” I yelled across the forest, I sprinted near her. I stopped to check my breath. I started to run to Makenah. She nodded her head no I started to walk around Makenah. Then I saw it. I was on a rock I started to pick it up Makenah came over and we cheered silently. We started to go up the hill. We waited for the teacher to hand us another one. Then she handed us number 13. Makenah pointed east and we started to go straight

We started to go down the hill. We ran across the old scary shed. I looked down and I saw that it said to go into the woods. Then I remembered the teacher said not to go into the woods. Makenah came over and we struggled so we started to go back up the hill so we could tell the teacher were it was. Then Makenah stopped and said, “How about we go check with Meleah of where it is.”

I nodded ok, and we started to look around. Then we found Meleah we asked her and she said that it was next to the wagon in the forest. We started to run right back where we were in the beginning. We looked everywhere but we couldn't find it. Then I saw a stack of wood in the side of the forest. Then I saw it- I saw number 13 in the corner of the stacked wood. I started to run towards the glass jar. I looked at it and Makenah came over and we cheered in silencely. We started to go right back up the hill again. We handed the teacher the GPS. She started to give us number 5 and we went where it said to go we went back done the hill.

“ I saw that one when we were trying to find 13!” Makenah said. She pointed to the old scary shed. We started to run towards it. I started to look around and found it right next to the shed. Makenah came over we started to go the teacher. She pointed where we stored our backpacks. We started to sprint towards where the teacher said to go.

“Oh that was so hard” I said to Makenah well we were walking back.

WHAT Were the Odds? By Annabelle

I hope I make it to the top this time . . . Well, if I want to make it to the top, I have to clip in.

I tied a figure eight follow through. So many times I had to tie a figure eight follow through. Not like I’m complaining, I like figure eight follow throughs.

HUH! Oh. I can climb now.

My arms and legs were noodles when I grabbed the hold. They weren’t listening to me. I looked back. It wasn’t the most inspiring sight. A few people watching me. A lady on her phone. Over on the bouldering wall some people were bouldering. Of course people are bouldering. It’s a bouldering wall. I turned back to the wall.

The smell of chalk that commonly wafts around climbing walls was strongest on the wall.

Honestly, for me, the smell can be a bit of a headache. But that’s not the point of the story. I can only imagine a title for that story.

At this point, I had reached the overhang. I paused. The holds were still easy. I could make it. Hopefully. I reached. I couldn’t reach it. I looked back, ready to hop off. I was too low. I would kill someone if I jumped off here.

I only had one direction to go and I knew it. That direction was up. I swung, this time I reached the hold. Then the next hold.

I felt a sense of pride . . . Then the moment came to an abrupt stop. So did I. The next hold was out of arm’s reach. I was ready to jump off, but something stopped me. If I give up so easily, I’ll never accomplish anything. This time, with determination powering me, I reached it. Two more holds of that and that moment ended too. There was another one of those holds.

I know what I said earlier, but do I HAVE to. No, no I do not. I looked back one last time. The lady was still there. Still the people watching me. Still some people bouldering. The lady was just the right height that I would run into, but she was too far away. Even if she was close enough when I jumped off, what were the odds of me running into her?

I jumped off. I swung farther and farther I didn’t know the rope was long enough. I was heading right towards the lady. She didn’t look at me. I flew right over her head. I don’t think she noticed. I flew back over her head. She didn’t look up.

I was in air. Nothing could stop me . . . Except the WALL. Oh. Nevermind. I always do that.

Once I landed on the ground again, I knew I’d think twice before trying that again.

Muffins The Moose By Luke

“Ahhh,” I said. I was out camping with my friend’s family and my dad and brother. I was having the best day. It was sunny with a light breeze and I just finished the most delicious lunch ever. Then when I thought the day couldn’t get any better my dad spotted a moose. “Shhh,” he said. “Look at that huge moose.”

“Cool,” everyone said.

“Let’s get closer for a better picture,” said my dad. We all got a good picture except for my dad and since he was the one that saw it he had to get a good picture. Then the moose turned and everyone ran back to the camp. My dad and I were the only ones who didn’t. The moose darted deeper into the forest and my dad and I followed.

Slowly I trailed behind. I was far behind my dad but my dad was right by the moose and got a good picture but the flash scared the moose and it ran. Sadily the moose didn’t run into the forest, it ran at me! I was panicking I couldn’t move and I was scared. I didn’t know what to do I hadn’t ever needed to fight a charging moose. I was panting although I hadn’t moved. Scared. Panting. Alone. There I was all by myself, a young, weak boy with a huge moose charging toward me. I knew I was dead, but I didn’t know how to accept that. Everything around me was moving slower than ever. It was then I realized I was in my last living moments. This moose was going to be the cause of my death. I closed my eyes waiting to me pummeled by the moose, It felt like it was taking hours yet the moose hadn’t hit me, and although it hadn’t hit I already felt the pain. But instead of being killed I felt a gust of air and I opened my eyes and I saw that the moose turned. I was alive! My dad rushed over and said, “Luke! Are you okay?”

“Yes,” I said. My dad and I went back to the camp and told everyone what had happened. Everyone was happy I was okay and we even named the moose. Muffins. Muffins The Moose. In the end I think that this was good for me because now I am not afraid of mooses. So yes, this was good for me.

Later that night when I was in my warm tent I thought about the moose that almost killed me. It could have easily killed me but it was it’s decision not to. And know that I was thinking about it I knew that the moose didn’t try hurt or scare me also it wasn’t going to kill me. I’m very happy it didn’t.

Did I? Did I? Did I? By: Bella

I walked into the room, and there I saw 5 judges with clipboards and black fold up chairs. I slowly found a spot at the barre and gulped. I was so nervous I couldn’t even move. I tried and put a smile on my face to show the judges that I can smile. I had been so excited to take the pointe test, but now I was so nervous. When my ballet teacher came in we did a warm up at the barre, we did plies and frape. Then we went to the center and did turns and glesads. After that we went to the corner and did leaps and waltz. One of the students asked when we would be able to find out if we made it or not. They said that we would find out next thursday. I was sad that we had to wait a whole entire week.

Next Thursday was finally here, it was the last day of school. I was very anxious the whole day to get home and find out. When the day was finally over, as nervous as I was, I ran out the door as fast as I could all the way home. When I got home my mom was on the phone with my grandma and I was very sad about that because I really wanted to know.” Who was I kidding, I would never get on pointe.” I said to myself, “ I’m not even the required age.” I would never get on pointe.

When my mom got off the phone she told me to hold on a second and went outside. My mom said something to him but I couldn’t hear. While they were talking I was standing there very anxious, while listening to my little brothers act like animals. When they finished talking they both came back inside. My mom took out her phone and found the email for me. My mom gave the phone to me and I read the email. It said,” I know you are all anxiously waiting for this email blah blah blah. We are very excited to tell you the we feel as though Bella is ready for pointe!”I turned around and gasped. I was sooo excited! “I thought that they would wait a year because I am two young, but they didn’t I get to do pointe!” I screamed. I am so glad I made pointe.

Storm The Present By Aubrey

Finally my family and I arrive in Utah after driving about 2 hours from Moab Utah to the certain address that holds the family present. It felt like it was endless till my family and I left for the trip to obtain the present. Waiting to arrive at the final destination but it felt like it never would. My family and I arrive at the house. It was yellow with solid red bricks. There was a big shady tree in the calm looking front yard that just hung there. Motionless but not. It moved in only the slight of the breeze. When the car came to a stop my siblings and I all clambered out of the platinum sequoia with silver handles.

When my family and I wander into the house we saw a little kitten in the arms of a woman walking down the stairs. We all were in the attendance of the present. So my family and I respectfully walked into the living room. My brother and I sat on the couch. It was a kind of gray color. And very comfortable. My sister was positioned on the kind of white cream carpeted floor. The woman had already gave the present to my sister. He the present was white and gray with blue eyes that had light and dark blues. His tail was gray like his paws, face, and ears. He was beyond adorable.

Then I did not even know what the experiences I would have with him.

He whom was named a simple name. Storm. Storm was He. Storm was Him. Storm was Storm the one and only present. Storm was the present with white and gray with blue eyes. And he. He was ours, family, brother, Storm. Right now he is my brother and forever will be.

One of my bestest friends.

Storm.

Magic in the Air By Juliet

Pit, pat, pitter, patter, pat. My steps seemed to be turning into skips, and my happiness level just kept rising. I was in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter of Universal Studios Japan (USJ), and even though I was ten years old, I felt as giddy as a six year old child.

I was looking around, trying to take it all in with one look. Looking in every little corner, over turrets, under arches, and...wait. I saw a flash of brilliant white. An owl? I thought. No, a sign. It read: Wand Choosing Ceremony. My eyes shifted to the shop next to it. Well, if that is Ollivanders, the wand shop, then that means…huh, I don’t know, it’s some kind of 4D room? I inquisitively looked for a line of people. Not too many people in the line, but what is it? I walked over, not sure what to expect. I saw a little, old door on the stone wall. Then, some more people crowded behind me, and my parents found me among them.

The old, crooked door creaked open, and I was overwhelmed with a dusty scent, hints of, what was it, tea? Maybe nutmeg? I didn’t know, it just smelled good, other than the dust. I jumped in the room. It was tiny, barely big enough to fit our small group of Harry Potter fans. Front row, score! I said to myself. Unzipping my jacket carefully, to make sure the zipper didn’t get caught, I uncovered a Ravenclaw shirt, a dark navy blue shirt embellished with pretty crystals that formed the Ravenclaw house crest.

There was a man at the desk in front of me, the papers he was looking at were old, yellowed, crinkled, and falling from their large stacks. He was all dressed in wizarding attire, with a purple and gold embroidered cap, a green, purple, and gold embroidered robe, and wiry spectacles. His face seemed rosy from the light of the antique looking, rose shaped lamp. Universal Studios sure knows how to bring magic to life, man.

“You, little girl, come here.” I saw that the man was pointing at me. I felt the skip in my step come again. I walked over the rug, and nearly tripped over a tassel. “What is your name?” he inquired. I answered, “Juliet Lutz.” He walked smoothly to the shelves of cluttered wand cases, then struggled to pull the sapphire case out.

“Here, a holly wand.” I tried it out, but though it portrayed a brilliant display of multicolored light, he put it away. Then, pulling out a mahogany case, less of a struggle this time, he gave me a wand that had a lattice handle, with a slight bend. It had a blend of espresso and maroon color, a beautiful mix. I held it in my hand, and I felt how strong and durable it was near the bottom, and weaker toward the top. The man told me it was a reed wand as a spiral of sky blue sparkly light came from the tip. I could feel magic in the air. He turned with a flourish and said, “This, my friend, is the wand for you.”
