War with Mexico
By: Luke
Have you ever heard about the War with Mexico? Well let me tell you all about it. It all started in 1846. Mexico had attacked 16 american soldiers and they were either dead or wounded. James K. Polk decided to buy New Mexico and California but the government of Mexico said no. Polk wanted the two territories because he thought that all the land that lead all the way to the Pacific Ocean Should be the United States’s.
Polk patience
That sent President Polk off like a firecracker right away and he was mad. “If I can’t get Mexico and California one way, then I will get it the other!” Polk had a talk with the government and said that “American blood was shed upon American soil.” That was not true at all. All Polk wanted was those two territories.
The war
Polk got the American army fired up and ready to go to war with Mexico. Mexico was also ready to go to war. The United States congress declared war on Mexico on May 14, 1846. They got ready to defend their homeland and they were ready to give anything to defend it. The big war soon broke out but it Lasted for four years while other battles lasted for from three weeks to six months. Santa anna was the general for the Mexican army and led it the entire way.
Flag revolt
The bear flag revolt happened in California and the rebellion soon overthrew Mexican rule there. The U.S. now had California.
Surrender
to surrender in 1848 Santa anna had to give up New Mexico and California and five years later the United states bought New Mexico and California. In conclusion the war with Mexico was a big war but not the bloodiest war.
