The Intro
Have you ever wondered how California became a state? Well in my informational book you find that out. You will also find out about other things to like The beginning, the discovery and the life of a miner.
The Beginning...
Before the gold rush California was a territory where people lived their lives as farmers and lots of other things. But in 1848 things changed, Things changed when John Sutter had hired James Marshall to build Sutter a saw mill. After the saw mill was built Marshall saw a yellow thing in the river. So he went to the river and picked up a yellow rock and then he realised what he started to realize was holding was gold, pure Gold.
The Discovery...
After Marshall found the gold he told Sutter then the two men decided to keep the find a secret but that didn't last long. Soon the word spread and soon about 8,000 people heard about the gold and wanted to get a share of the fortune. The sad thing was that people left their families to get gold.
What happened during the trip...
To these miners it sounded easy to get gold but really it was harder that just getting the gold. The trail was long and some of the miners didn't make it to the destination. On the way some of the miners stopped to get tools and other supplies.
The life of a miner…
As a forty niner/miner some of the tools that you need are a pickaxe, shovel and a tent. Some of the things that a miners would eat are bacon, beef jerky, beans, tea and coffee. The things that you would see a miner wearing are a long sleeve flannel shirt, a old pair of trousers held up by suspenders, high boots pulled up over there pant legs and a well worn slouch hat.
The End Of The Gold Rush
When the miners got to the destination the miners started to mine. All of the mining polluted the land. Soon there was almost no more gold to mine. Some of the miners never got rich, not even Marshall and Sutter got rich. But the biggest thing that happened was that California has been changed from a territory to a state.
The Conclusion
Well now you know that the California Gold rush was an important event. And that event changed California from what it was back then to what it is now.
