Intro
So I bet you that you know about Lewis and Clark. ya’know the two crazy explorers that brought a dog all the way to Oregon and back. Yeah, anywho I have my own story to tell you how it happened. So keep on reading.

Lewis and Clark’s Journey Beginning

In 1802 President Thomas Jefferson wondered what the ocean looked like in Oregon since he had never been there and he just did the Louisiana Purchase. So he sent Meriwether Lewis former army captain of the frontier out to investigate for him. Lewis could also bring one other person along. So he called out for William Clark. The two friends were both former explorers and were perfect for the job. The two men went around and hired many men who were up to the challenge to help on the expedition. A couple years later the men were ready to set off on the Missouri River. They packed many provisions like food, fish hooks, needles, large quantities of colored beads, ribbons out of fine silk, and mirrors. They soon left louisiana to find the great seas of Oregon.

Indian Villages & Sacagawea
Lewis and Clark accidentally left while it was Fall and seeked shelter for the winter. They traveled a bit more up the Missouri River and found an indian village called the Otos. They stayed at the village and found how friendly they were. They taught them how to hunt and fish and trap. By spring in 1805 Lewis and Clark were ready to take off on the river once again. After sailing for a while Lewis and clark and the men headed into dangerous territory. They were in the Mandan territory, but they didn’t know that they were deadly. As soon as Lewis and Clark got on the Mandans land, they were reckless. The indians attacked and Lewis and Clark had to stay there for a bit (captured) but was saved by a woman named Sacagawea. She reasoned with the indians and the indians let them go. Now they're best buds!! You Sonshones. S see Sacagawea, when she was only 11 got kidnapped from her home land. She was raised by the Mandans and at age sixteen she was won as a gambling prize by Charbonneau and they both married as Sacagawea's’ prize. Now Sacagawea is pregnant with a baby boy. She begs to help with the expedition, and Lewis and Clark accepted her soon Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea all head up still toward Oregon.

Oregon Success
As Sacagawea and Lewis and Clark climbed up the river for days in the winter. Sacagawea was now carrying a baby boy on her back in a bag. t’was was a harsh winter of 1805  but they persevered through it until they found the Shoshones indian village. Sacagawea was able to guide them through the land because it looked familiar. It was her home. She also got reunited with her long lost brother. I don’t know the name of him but that’s all I know about him right now. A few days later Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea (and many other men) heard the waves of the ocean. They ran for hope and found the ocean everyone rejoiced. To celebrate the men carved their names on trees and built a home to stay in for the winter instead of heading home like Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea did. Sacagawea returned to the Mandan indians. I think ten years later Sacagawea died. Lewis and Clark returned home.

Home
Lewis and Clark returned to Louisiana in 1806 because they took a new route that was faster. Jefferson asked if they were successful, and Lewis and Clark said they were but there was no northern pass so they had to take a longer route (to Oregon). Jefferson didn’t care he just wanted to know what they saw. Lewis and Clark had discovered 178 kinds of plants and more than 100 kinds of animals, like bobcats, coyotes, and much more. A long time later like a few years when Lewis and Clark passed away people made statues of them to show how grateful they are that they traveled across The United States. They even made Clark’s dog that came along.

In Conclusion

Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea all had an amazing adventure and now in present day you might get to see some signatures on trees if you were to go there. You also might see the house they stayed in for the winter. So Go and check it out if it’s still there.
