Moving , Killed Cherokees
In 1838 the Cherokee people were moving from the south to Oklahoma. Soldiers were killing the Cherokees so they would move to Oklahoma. But the Cherokees wanted to stay. They marched a long way in winter, summer and winter was very cold. 4,000 Cherokees died during the Trail of Tears. The law of the “Indian removal act” was passed in 1830. The Cherokee people gave up their land and were forced to go to prison camps. From the camps they went to Oklahoma.
Sad Information.
Cherokee families came home to discover that everything they owned had
been taken by white people. The trade of new echota was made cherokees we given $5 million +land in Oklahoma for their land. They also were given money to use on the trail. Unfortunately, they needed to pay for everything and some of the prices were very high and it was bad quality. The white people made money. I think it is not fair that indians are not treated like white people. Trail of Tears is also called the the trail where they cried. In the Cherokee languish nuna-da-ut-suny mean the trail where they cried. It was a very dark time in Indian history.
The Peace of the Cherokees.
Everyone wanted the Cherokee’s territory because they had found gold in there land and the land had good soil for farming! The Cherokees were trying to live in peace with everyone by doing what the white people wanted. For example, when Americans were fighting against the British and the Cherokees helped the Americans by fighting on their side! Some Cherokee leaders even went to England to visit the king to live in peace with them!
But sadly the white people didn’t care and killed most of them.
